Shine essays The film Shine directed by Scott Hicks is an amazing film on power of love. Love is a very destructive power but it is also very uplifting. Love was one of the problems that caused Davids breakdown. Davids love came from mostly people out of the family but his parents and sisters still loved him very much, so I guess you could say that it came in two different pieces. This most probably confused him. Negative- David is loved by his father very much, you know this because Peter (his father) says it to him a lot during the movie. David is confused because he is treated so bad from his father but also gets love. Peter probably thinks he is setting David for life and thinks his doing the right thing but it doesnt really help him at all. Uplifting- Sylvia, Catherine and Gillian treated David with real love and respect like he had never been treated before, even by his own family. They showed him how much people can love and help. They were very patient even when he was annoying. They showed him that he was able to trust them, especially Gillian. Love is very help full and even you can achieve the hardest things just like David. Peter (Davids dad)- Peter loved David as much as he could, the only problem was he didnt know how to treat David. He thought that with punishment and beatings it would help him. Since David was slow, it annoyed him because he found David childish, infact to childish for his age. Peter wanted the best for David. He thought hurting him would make him strong and thought it would make him listen to his information. He wants David to become a successful pianoist so he pushed and pushed. The abuse that Peter gave David could be what his father did to him and thought it was right. Catherine- Catherine loved it when David would play the piano for her and since David wasnt always aloud to play the piano at his house Catherine invited him over, because she was lonely an ...
